Henrico is one of the most popular counties in the Richmond metro for a reason — well-established neighborhoods, a strong public school system, and a wide enough range of communities that you’ll find significant variety inside its borders. The county wraps around Richmond on the north, east, and west, which means you’re never more than a short drive from the city, but you’re firmly in suburban living once you’re here.

The county effectively splits into two halves, and they have distinctly different personalities. The West End is where you’ll find Glen Allen, Short Pump, Innsbrook, Tuckahoe, and Westhampton — neighborhoods built around corporate hubs, major retail like Short Pump Town Center, and newer residential development. This side has a polished, master-planned feel.

The East End and closer-in pockets — Lakeside, Highland Springs, Sandston, and Varina — offer a different feel. More established housing stock, character architecture, larger lots in some pockets, and a quieter pace. Lakeside in particular has a growing food scene along Lakeside Avenue, while Varina retains a more rural feel with significant acreage available.

Henrico County Public Schools serves the entire county. Whether you’re looking at new construction in Wyndham, a mid-century home in Lakeside, or a larger lot out in Varina, Henrico delivers significant variety in suburban living.
